Rasuwa Flood: Death Toll Reaches 1,259, More Than 5,000 People Still Missing

Kathmandu, September 3, 2026:

The death toll from the devastating floods and landslides affecting Rasuwa and several other districts has reached 1,259, while around 5,083 people remain missing, according to the latest update issued by Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) as of 7:00 PM on September 3, 2026.

According to the update, bodies recovered include 127 in Rasuwa, 177 in Nuwakot, 60 in Dhading, 72 in Gorkha, 38 in Tanahun, 218 in Nawalparasi East, 212 in Nawalparasi West and 355 in Chitwan. The figure also includes unidentified human remains recovered from different locations.

Around 5,083 People Missing

Authorities have received reports of around 2,130 missing people from Rasuwa and 2,340 from Nuwakot, while 583 foreign nationals are also reported missing.

Search operations are continuing across the affected areas as security agencies work to locate those who remain unaccounted for.

More Than 12,000 People Rescued

A total of 12,038 people have been rescued so far.

The Nepali Army alone has rescued 4,126 people, including 3,653 Nepali citizens and 273 foreign nationals through air and land rescue operations.

The Nepal Police has rescued 3,988 people, while the Armed Police Force has rescued another 3,924.

Nepali Army helicopters have conducted 785 flights, including 95 flights on Thursday alone.

5,384 Injured People Receive Treatment

A total of 5,384 injured people have received medical treatment following the disaster.

Of them, 304 received treatment at different hospitals, while 3,206 were treated through the Nepali Army and another 1,874 through the Armed Police Force.

More Than 21,000 Security Personnel Deployed

A total of 21,402 security personnel have been mobilized for search, rescue and relief operations.

The deployment includes 9,287 personnel from the Nepali Army, 7,912 from the Nepal Police and 4,203 from the Armed Police Force.

Relief Supplies Being Transported

Relief operations are continuing, with 69 trucks and 38 Bolero vehicles carrying food and relief materials dispatched to affected areas.

Relief supplies have also been delivered by helicopter, while an additional 11 trucks were dispatched on Thursday.

The Armed Police Force has transported relief materials through 163 flights to affected districts.

Government Provides Cash Support

The Government of Nepal has provided NPR 10 million each to Rasuwa and Nuwakot, NPR 5 million to Dhading and a total of NPR 135 million to 15 affected local governments as immediate financial support.

Meanwhile, 3,844 people are currently staying at holding centers, including 2,981 in Nuwakot, 260 in Dhading and 603 in Rasuwa.

Fuel and Communication Services Restored

Fuel stocks in the affected areas currently include approximately 40,000 litres of diesel, 22,000 litres of petrol and 18,000 litres of aviation fuel.

Communication services have also improved. All 110 damaged NTC towers are now operational, while 75 of Ncell’s 78 damaged towers have been restored.

Search, rescue, medical assistance and relief distribution continue across the disaster-hit areas, with authorities giving priority to locating thousands of people who remain missing. Recent reporting likewise indicates that the scale of the disaster continues to pose major challenges for rescue and recovery operations.
