Latest Update on Nepal-Rasuwa & Nuwakot Flood: Search, Rescue and Relief Operations Intensify

Kathmandu — The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has released the latest update on search, rescue and relief operations following the devastating floods in Rasuwa and surrounding districts.

According to the update released at 6:00 PM on Bhadra 15, 2083, the reported human casualties have reached 739. The authorities are continuing search and rescue operations across the affected areas, while a large number of people remain unaccounted for.

Bodies Recovered from Several Districts

The latest details show that bodies have been recovered from several districts, including 23 in Rasuwa, 15 in Nuwakot, 55 in Dhading, 65 in Gorkha, 216 in Nawalparasi East, 168 in Nawalparasi West, 38 in Tanahun and 179 in Chitwan.

Around 3,125 People Still Unaccounted For

Authorities report that approximately 3,125 people remain out of contact. This includes around 1,455 people in Nuwakot, approximately 632 people associated with hydropower projects, 52 foreign nationals, 146 Nepali nationals who had been travelling abroad, and others.

More Than 11,000 People Rescued

A total of 11,379 people have been rescued so far. Nepal Army helicopters have rescued 253 foreign nationals and 3,404 Nepali citizens. The Nepal Army has conducted 499 aerial rescue flights, while private aircraft have also carried out 29 flights from Kathmandu.

More than 21,000 personnel from the Nepal Police, Nepal Army and Armed Police Force have been deployed for rescue, security and relief operations.

Government Provides Cash Relief

The Government of Nepal has provided NPR 10 million each to Rasuwa and Nuwakot, NPR 5 million to Dhading, and NPR 67.5 million to 15 affected local governments as immediate cash relief.

Meanwhile, 37 trucks and 37 Boleros have transported food and essential relief supplies to affected areas. Helicopters have also conducted eight relief flights to deliver supplies to areas that remain difficult to access.

Fuel and Communication Services Affected

The affected areas currently have approximately 45,000 litres of diesel, 20,000 litres of petrol and 9,000 litres of aviation fuel available.

Flooding also damaged communication infrastructure. 110 Nepal Telecom towers were damaged, but all have reportedly been restored. Of the 78 Ncell towers damaged, 75 have been brought back into operation.

Unidentified Bodies Being Kept at Hospitals

Authorities said unidentified bodies have been kept at 21 hospitals across different districts. Detailed information regarding unidentified victims is being made available through the NDRRMA’s official social media channels and the Nepal Police Disaster Reporting system.

Search, rescue, identification and relief operations are continuing across the affected areas.
