History of Gorkha

Ram Shah built the Gorkha palace complex in the 16th century. Prithvi Narayan Shah, born here circa 1723, conquered the Kathmandu Valley in 1768 and unified modern Nepal. The name Gorkha/Gurkha later became associated with Nepalese soldiers in British and Indian service.
