Namche Bazaar is the amphitheatre-shaped Sherpa capital of Khumbu at ~3,440 m — an acclimatization hub with lodges, bakeries, gear shops and a Saturday market, reached only by flying to Lukla and trekking two days up the Dudh Koshi valley.
History of Namche Bazaar
Namche Bazaar evolved from a weekly Sherpa trading market into the Khumbu's main commercial centre as mountaineering and trekking expanded from the 1950s onward. Saturday markets still draw villagers from surrounding valleys exchanging goods before routes continue toward Tengboche and Everest Base Camp.

Best time to visit

Transportation
Fly Kathmandu/Ramechhap–Lukla, trek via Phakding to Namche (~2 days, ~10–12 km walking per day). No bus or jeep access for standard tourist routes.
